Offering one-day workshops either as private, one-on-one instruction or in a small group setting in one of the most photogenic and beautiful parts of the country, the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia. These sessions are for anybody wishing to become a better photographer and/or find themselves in the right place at the right time in order to capture photos you can be proud of.
Sessions will be completely tailored to your wants and needs as a photographer and will primarily be held in areas including Tucker, Randolph, Pendleton, and Pocahontas Counties. Places such as Dolly Sods, Blackwater Falls State Park, Canaan Valley, Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob, Falls of Hills Creek, Highland Scenic Highway are just some among many possibilities. Other potential locations include personal honey-holes, lesser-known and lesser-visited spots for that truly unique photo.
We can shoot all day long from sunrise to sunset or we can shoot less and spend more time going over post-processing techniques. The amount of time spent in the field and in the “classroom” is entirely up to you.
The biggest takeaway here is that you tell me what you want out of the experience and I will work with you to tailor the day's itinerary to meet those needs. Ultimately, I want to be able to share my love of photography and nature with you, helping you, if nothing else, to capture some cool photos you can be proud of.

What to Bring
Camera
You will need your own camera whether it's a DSLR, an old Polaroid, or even your phone. I shoot Canon so I am best equipped to assist other Canon users, but all digital cameras are similar enough such that I will be able to assist anyone with a different brand.
Tripod
When taking landscape photos, this piece of equipment is crucial, especially when taking long exposures or multiple shots, such as exposure bracketing, with the intention of blending them in post-processing. If you don't have one, that's fine, just understand that it will be much more difficult to get crisp, sharp photos that are also free of noise, especially when shooting in the low light conditions of the very beginning and end of the day.
Filters
Preferably, you would have at least a circular polarizing filter to help reduce glare during the midday or scenes with bright, harsh light and to enhance the color and overall look of the image. If we are shooting waterfalls, streams, or if we want to blur the movement of clouds, then I would highly recommend an ND filter of at least 3-4 stops as well. I personally own a 3 and a 6 stop, both of which are stackable, and both of which I would gladly lend you if they fit your lens diameter. These are not essential, but are extremely beneficial if you have them.
Interested?
If this sounds like something you would be interested in, contact me using the page on this website, email me or find me on any one of my social media accounts and let me know what you want out of the session, where you might want to go, your experience level, when you might like to do this, and whatever else you can think of that would help me tailor the day more specifically to you. (If you haven't noticed yet, the links to my socials and email are at the bottom of every page of this website by the way.) If possible, please let me know at least 2-3 weeks, preferably a month in advance of the date you wish to do this on so that I may have enough time to make sure I get the day off from work and so that I may better plan around the predicted weather and other externals that could impact the trip. I look forward to hearing from you and I really look forward to getting out in the field with you to get some great photos!
